Although, McLaughlin Research’s principal customer base remains Defense-related, we are currently expanding our business in the commercial, educational, and other governmental sectors through innovative application of our more than 60 years of corporate experience.

Products and Services

McLaughlin Research offers customers a variety of products and services within our core capability areas. We are proud to profile the following efforts as representative of the types of quality services we have provided recently to business, educational, and governmental clients.

Graphic Design and Production -- Our in-depth, wide-spectrum, innovative graphics design and documentation efforts for the Navy have provided a sound foundation for successfully providing graphics solutions and products for any customer. For example, one major Navy project involved the design, rendering, lamination, and mounting on foamboard of a set of full-color, 3’x5’ wall posters incorporating a variety of graphic elements (i.e., photographs, original artwork, text, etc.) to promote vision and mission statements, display new organizational structures, and showcase major programs/projects following a major departmental reorganization, along with the development and production of a complementary briefing program that could be presented in different interactive formats. Our graphic designers have employed these same skill sets and techniques to produce high quality graphic products for the following projects:

·         Provided graphic design support to the U.S. Naval War College Museum for two major exhibits. This effort included computer-based scanning, enhancement, plotting, and mounting of historical photos, as well as original graphic design and production of display items.

·         Provided graphic design for a widely distributed brochure announcing “A Day with Patrick O’Brian,” a major cultural event and fundraiser for Newport’s Redwood Library and Athenæum, the oldest private library in the United States. Our graphic artists incorporated original book jacket paintings by Geoff Hunt into thematic designs for the brochure, invitations, and posters.

·         Formatted, transcribed, and created electronic copies of a 19th-century, hand-written manuscript for the Director of Libraries at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. The effort required careful review/transposition from manuscript to electronic files and painstaking quality assurance examination of final copies.

·         Developed brochures, posters, and other promotional materials for a major exhibitor at the annual Fine Furnishings Show at the Rhode Island Convention Center. This effort required on-site digital photography, photo selection, layout, and text development.

·         Provided large-format, historical black and white photo-posters for the renovation of Ney Hall, the principal dining facility at the U.S. Naval Station, Newport. This project involved computer-based photo enhancement, plotting, laminating, and mounting -- all accomplished in house.

·         Designed porcelain coffee mugs, including one that featured “invisible” artwork made visible through use of the Mystiqueä thermal image display process, which were distributed as mementos at multinational meetings in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and The Netherlands.

·         Designed book cover and back for “Remember Me to All Enquiring Friends,” a compendium of Civil War letters and diaries compiled and annotated by Michael Hurd.

·         Design gift and commemorative bottle labels for wines produced by McLaughlin Vineyards, located in Sandy Hook, CT.

In addition, our annual holiday greeting card and our yearly display calendar are popular promotional items that have become collectors’ items for customers and friends of McLaughlin Research Corporation.

Documentation Preparation – McLaughlin Research’s roots in technical documentation can be traced back to our founding in World War II. The tools and media may have changed over the years, but the sound principles of organizing, writing, editing, and quality control are as valid today as they were then. Examples of McLaughlin’s recent efforts in this area include the following:

·         McLaughlin Research Corporation provides the resources necessary to tailor support of ISO implementation efforts as part of any organization’s project management practices. Our “total spectrum” ISO support encompasses all required documentation, as well as training and internal auditing. We have provided successful support to ISO 9001:2000 (Quality Management System) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) certification efforts within the Department of Defense, but our efficient and cost-effective support leading to ISO certification and enhanced business posture is available to any business entity or element.

·         Provided comprehensive editorial services for the development of the annual report for a major, international research and development corporation. Working with rough technical input, revised and edited 14 separate articles that described various computer-based scientific initiatives.

Digital Imaging and Conversion -- McLaughlin Research has extensive experience in the digital imaging and conversion of archival materials for governmental, commercial, and educational clients. We offer a customer-oriented, multi-disciplined approach to solving legacy document conversion problems of any complexity, which may involve any or all of the following considerations:

·         Project Planning

·         Document Preparation

·         Documentation Scanning

·         Database Creation

·         Data Conversion

·         Storage Media Production

·         Data Repository System Design, Integration, and Management

·         Associated Training.
